An Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist is highly trained and specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders related to the muscles and functions of the face, mouth and throat.

Myofunctional therapists work with patients who may have problems with tongue posture, swallowing patterns, speech difficulties, breathing problems, and other issues that stem from improper muscle coordination and function. We use exercises, techniques, and therapies to help patients develop proper muscle habits and improve their overall oral and facial function.

The goals of myofunctional therapy include improving speech articulation, correcting swallowing patterns, facilitating proper breathing, enhancing facial aesthetics, and addressing issues related to oral habits such as thumb sucking.

Devin is a myofunctional therapist with a strong academic foundation, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from UNC Wilmington.

Introduced to myofunctional therapy three years ago while working as a clinical dental hygienist, Devin quickly developed a passion for addressing sleep-disturbed breathing and related disorders. Under the guidance of a forward-thinking dentist, Devin honed the skills to recognize and manage myofunctional disorders, specializing in combining myofunctional therapy and oral appliances to help reduce symptoms of sleep apnea in children and adults.

When not helping clients improve their quality of life through therapy, Devin enjoys spending time with his four beloved dogs: an eleven-year-old Maltese, a three-year-old miniature schnauzer, a one-and-a-half year-old German Shepherd, and a one-year-old Aussie Doodle.
